Citizens for Modern Transit is the visionary organization that advocated to bring Light Rail to St Louis more than 25 years ago. The group continues to promote light rail and the use of public transit in the St Louis region. The organization has evolved into a membership based transit advocacy organization.

Understanding the minds of transit riders and citizens is key to informing the organization’s efforts, and justifying the advocacy work that CMT engages in on behalf of the city of St Louis. We were tasked with surveying people living within 1/2 mile of Metrolink -- St Louis' light rail transit. The client wanted to know what citizens thoughts were on transit, how it could best serve them in the future, and how proximity affected their transit decisions. We developed a web based survey instrument, streamlining the delivery of the survey and the analysis. The survey resulted in some expected outcomes, but also delivered some direct quotes and insights on what motivates transit decisions in St Louis.
