Pretty and distinctive little waterbird, 
mandarin duck was introduced from the Far East. 
Oddly for a duck, it nests in trees,
 
 
Found on park lakes, rivers and wetlands with overhanging trees, strong hold in South East England, but also in North England, Wales and Scotland.
 
Lifespan: up to 10 years in captivity, 6 years in the wild.
 
Mandarin ducks perform a specialized courtship routine. The males shake, bob their heads, mock drink, and mock preen, all while raising their crest and orange "sail" feathers to show off.
