Task 3 Title Sequence Analysis

CC2222: Motion Graphic in Film Task
In this task, we are asked to research on various opening or closing title sequence and select one which we find interesting.
We are required to analyse the title sequence and discuss briefly how it relates to the movie. This includes the narrative of the title sequence, the elements and background music used, the transitions and effects, etc.
I selected the opening title sequence for a film directed and written by the Academy Award-winning film director, Guillermo del Toro, The Shape of Water, that was released in 2017.
This film is set in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1962, during the Cold War. The story follows a mute cleaner at a high-security government laboratory who falls in love with a captured humanoid amphibian creature.
The opening title sequence uses a combination of the flutes, accordion and whistle sounds as the background music to set the mood for the film.
Fade in, zoom in and pan are used to transition from one scene to another.
The film opens with a black screen which faded to a scene where an underwater cave can be seen. The camera slowly zooms towards the cave. Audience is introduced to a submerge hallway of a flat. The camera keeps on zooming in until it stops at a door which is being opened to what seems to be a living space because furniture can be seen floating inside. A narrator starts to speak while the camera slowly pans to the left until a woman who seems to be sleeping can be seen floating. After the narrator ended his story, everything starts to be gradually sinking, and an alarm can be heard going off. The woman wakes up and stops the alarm and the title sequence ended.
